In case of sickness, the doctor may be chosen freely.
Treatment by doctors
Medicine (specialty drugs and pharmacists’ preparations) is prescribed by the doctor in charge.
Hospital care / Home medical care
The WGKK pays about a third of the contributions made by insured persons into the Regional Health Fund that finances public hospitals.
Health aids and therapeutic appliances
Health aids (e.g. orthopaedic shoe inserts, blood-sugar monitoring devices or visual aids) und therapeutic appliances (e.g. stair lifts or orthopaedic shoes) are only provided if prescribed by a doctor.
For transporting ill insured persons and dependants who are unable to walk, the WGKK takes over the transport costs when they have to see a doctor, need dental treatment or dentures and need to have aids or appliances fitted. The following has to be taken into consideration.
Sickness benefit is to (partly) replace the loss of income resulting from an inability to work due to illness (sick leave).
Rehabilitation Allowance and Case Management
While you receive rehabilitation allowance, you will be supported and advised by specially trained case managers of the WGKK.
