The annual guide of the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Fund (Wiener Gebietskrankenkasse - WGKK) gives you a comprehensive overview of the benefits the WGKK provides for you and your dependants.

Dear readers,

For many years, the guide of the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Fund (WGKK) has been a reliable and concise reference book. It gives you a comprehensive overview of the benefits the WGKK provides for you and your dependants – from dentures to hospital care. This current edition of the guide will be the last in this form, as in the course of social insurance reform, the WGKK will be dissolved and from next year onward integrated in the Austrian Health Fund (Österreichische Gesundheitskasse).

Despite these turbulent and challenging times, we are aiming to be a reliable partner for our insured persons – almost 1.7 million customers today – as we feel strongly about social security, which has already become a matter of fact for many people. After all, 99.9 percent of the population is covered by social health insurance. Its underlying principle of solidarity ensures that sickness does not become an insurmountable cost factor. We will do everything in our power to keep true to this principle, as this means that everybody has access to comprehensive health provision - irrespective of individual income. In many countries with private health insurance systems, on the other hand, health problems quickly turn into financial problems.

The social health insurance institutions, including the WGKK, provide easy access to comprehensive benefits. A big city like Vienna poses particular challenges, such as severe impacts on the health of the population. Thus, you can find new programmes for health promotion and prevention in the first chapter of this guide. As the largest health insurance institution in Austria, the WGKK takes care of about 1.3 million insured persons and about 454,000 dependants. With our health facilities and branches, we are aiming to make an important contribution to the health provision of all Viennese.

It is our aim to be competent in health matters and to improve customer satisfaction through more information, local support and continuously expanding services.

In this context, we would particularly like to point out our Facebook presence. This platform provides valuable support and advice for insured persons, who also use the WGKK page to ask questions and make inquiries.

Another unbureaucratic feature is our online services, which can be found under the heading of “meineSV”. From submitting applications up to checking your insurance periods, a multitude of issues can be dealt with online. Our services on offer are continuously being expanded in order to save you time and effort. All you need to know about www.meinesv.at, the online portal of all social insurance institutions, can be found here. We wish you pleasant and informative reading with our 2019 guide!

Best Regards
