CHILDREN UP TO THE AGE OF 18

CHILDREN BEYOND THEIR 18th BIRTHDAY

Under the following circumstances health insurance cover can be extended.

If the child is in school education or vocational training

Prerequisites Duration (time limit) Documents required
school education or vocational training taking up the child’s working power to a major extent Maximally up to the 27th birthday (limit: 30th November of the calendar year in which the proof of attending school presented ends) Proof of attending school
  • Regular studies in the first part of studies
  • Studies are pursued seriously and determinedly
Maximally up to the 27th birthday (limit: 30th November of the calendar year in which the proof of pursuing studies ends)
  • If Family allowance is received for the child, proof of this
  • If no Family allowance is received:
    - Proof of attending university as a regular student
    - Proof of successful studies in the year 20xx (minimum of eight hours per week or at least 16 ECTS points

    *) – not required in the first year of studies

  • Regular studies in the second part of studies
  • Studies are pursued seriously and determinedly
Maximally up to the 27th birthday (limit: 30th November of the calendar year in which the proof of pursuing studies ends)
  • If Family allowance is received for the child, proof of this
  • If no Family allowance is received:
    Proof of attending university as a regular student

* Only exams which have been passed are taken into account.

If the child is unable to work because of illness or infirmity

One dependant running the household who is either parent, stepparent, adopted parent, foster parent, child, adopted child, stepchild, foster child, grandchild or sibling

CARING DEPENDANT

Caring dependant (Spouse, registered partner, persons related, also by marriage, to the person requiring care in direct line or in a family branch up to its 4th degree, children, adopted children, stepchildren, foster children, parents, adopted parents, foster parents, grandchildren, siblings and partner running the household)

The caring dependant cares for the insured person

  • who is entitled to care benefit of at least class 3 according to § 5 of the National Care Benefit Act or one of the Regional Care Benefit Acts in
  • a non-gainful manner
  • at home
  • and care takes up the dependant’s working power almost fully
